True. I live in a desert climate so water is so important for me. I need to condition wash my hair 2-3X a week.

Agree with some of the points, can't agree with everything though. IMO, I think everything isn't for everybody and while some things may work for you I dont think it will work for everybody. Washing every other day doesn't work for me and I know some people where silicones don't work for them. The flat ironing, blow drying, and not combing everyday are EXCELLENT tips! That definitely retains alot of length. I've only been fully natural for close to a yr now so Im still learning but those work!

Nice April, your hair looks very healthy! I'm wating for a big trim this summer.I'm letting it grow before I do that. Thanks for the tip on hair cuticles, good points. Have you tried Cantu Shea butter, can you do a review on that? I like it for my curls and it holds them. I use that as a styling aid just to switch from the expensive Kinky Curly Custard. I like the KCC but it is a bit expensive and a little crunchy. Do you sleep with satin cap or satin pillow case?

I know of several Asian ladies who have complained that no matter what they do, their hair will not hold a curl. I also know of several women, who state that their scalps are excessively oily and thus have to make adjustments for that. And I've heard Caucasian women say they're frustrated about too thin hair. Each hair type has its challenges, but in my opinion, and from my own experience, once I learned what mine needs, caring for it became not just easier, but a joy, no longer a challenge.

Yes, I understood your perspective at the time that you stated it. And certainly, we are each entitled to our opinions. In my opinion, you are living proof that not only is the state of our unique hair not unfortunate, but we can and should learn to work with what we have been given, and in doing so, cultivate a healthy, full head of hair. This, in my personal opinion, proves my exact point: that there is nothing unfortunate about what we are given, we only need to learn how to treat it.

The cuticles of our hair don't lye flat thus we loose a lot of moisture in our hair. As a result our hair is very fragile and it breaks easily. I believe it's unfortunate because curly textured people had difficulty keeping moisture in our hair. And yes, our hair certainly needs special care because of its structure. Now if only we could still have our curly texture without loosing moisture, our hair would not break so easily :).

Fantastic information. My only caution: You did say, "Unfortunately our hair does not lie flat..." It is clear that you are proud to be a fellow curly lady like so many of us, so I'm sure it was a slip of the tongue. But be careful not to inadvertently perpetuate the false concept that there is anything about our God-given natural beauty that is "unfortunate". After all, whether the cuticle stands up or lays down, both types of hair are beautiful and require their own special needs. Peace!
