they can do it using 2 different ways 1 using rotating gobo's which is basicly a metal patern put infront of the light and it spins or they use a more compley lighting system using mac martins or another type of moving light that they can control.

Biggest problem was that it was a show for kids and families, but folks with kids of an age to enjoy it don't generally have the 50-80 bucks it takes to get good seats for everyone. I love the songs, and saw it in a local small childrens theatre production- great show.

It just plain got bad reviews and not many audience members. It was reworked a bit before it was able to be done by schools. If you listen to the broadway CD vs go to a school performance you immediately tell differences. Some things didn't change, including this song thank God =)

I was here for this performance. It was by far the most amazing Defying Gravity I had ever seen live (I've seen the show 20 times!) Kristy had so much passion in what she was doing that night, it was stellar. There was just so much energy in that theater, it was electrifying. The cast played off us so well. I wish I could see the whole thing again!

Omg ... the black curtain that hides the hydraulic lift blows around a lot more in this production than in most of the others that I've seen. In London and Broadway, the black cloaky thing just blows gently and mystically in the background as she flies ... whereas here, it's blowing around like mad! Elphaba is pretty good. :)

@smileydanielface its cause when she puts the cape on Elphaba, who's just been named as a Wicked Witch by Morrible, she already has the apperance of the wicked witch, with the black hat and the broom. all she needs is the cape to fit what the wicked witch looks like. thats what they were aiming for. cause thats what we remember about the wicked witch, her long black cape. which has its own moment at the end of defying gravity, cause it gets like really huge lol

What is it with people laughing!? I've seen several videos where some of the audience laugh at the part where Glinda says "Here, put this around you", she puts the cloak on Elphie and they laugh? I've seen wicked on stage and many videos and I still don't get what's so funny?! Can anyone enlighten me? Oh top notch vid btw, brilliant ending on behalf of elphie.

@rentobbesion to be honest it had nothing to do with the critics. this was one of first shows that had prices of 100 dollars for a kids show. most parents don't want to pay that much for a broadway show. the tickets were too pricey. and my guess is the producers weren't happy with the incoming grosses. so they closed. it was mostly money problems. not critical.

it REALLY IS NOT FAIR that seussical only stayed on broadway for one year. this is a kick ass musical. i hate when critics force a broadway show to close early just because its aimed at kids (they did the same thing with shrek the musical) there should definatly be a revival of seussical ON BROADWAY not off broadway, ON BROADWAY!!!!! and it should stay there for at least 3 years! the damn critics didnt even give the show a chance.

@TheBabyBabbler: Seussical only had 6 months on Broadway. However, it IS making up for its "failure" on broadway, at schools, and colleges. However, no matter how "Amazing" people say their productions are, none could EVER match up to the pure amayzingess of the original. I've been in 2 different productions of Seussical, even though our sets and costumes were great, awesome choreography, and great singers, I don't think anything compares to Broadway. :)

Keep in mind I haven't seen the play live and also that I LOVE the film version, especially Pat Carroll's Ursula. I'm a little disappointed that the character lost all of the (dare I say) sex that Pat Carroll brought. Not to mention the song is written like a fifth higher (which, granted, is much more singeable)

okay okay okay, so I will admit that this is so not her best. Her E's are definatly not the greatest. And the way she sang "team" was..... a little bit worse than just iffy. However I think she is still fabulouse and her voice is great. Everyone has a quirk and this is just a tiny itty bitty one compared to everything ells. O.k. I am not usually the one that supports changing songs up with riffs, etc. BUT basically every Elphaba riffs one song or another. Eden does it a little more than some, but not a lot more. Her riffs show how amazing her voice actually is, and it does NOT detract from the way she portrays Elphaba. If every Elphaba sang each song as it is written every time they perform, the role of Elphaba would get boring because nothing new is coming to the character.

I guess it's a matter of whether you like the riffing or not. I do, because it means, to me, that the actors are personalizing the characters more. It's adding more "acting" into the singing. It's another story, however, if the riffing is just covering up for weak singing. One thing I love about Eden. She's great with bits of "business" on stage and bringing more to Elphaba than other actors do.

there are not words to describe how good she is. i think people would like her better too, if she had been the original Eplhie, and not Idina, i have nothing against her but I personally think that Eden is better.Idina got it first so people like her better and say that "she is Elphaba" just because she is the original but it doesnt mean that all the others have to be like her.I think people would be more hyped on Eden if she had gotten it first.I think Eden brings more to the character too.
