Email might be 40 years old, but at least me or anyone can download an email server and run it on OUR computer. You don't see that with google wave, since this is just a product designed at expanding google's monopoly. And with this upcoming ACTA agreement to monitor & control the internet, guess who's gonna want to be your biggest friend and store as many emails, communications and website visits as possible on THEIR computers?

Incredible presentation, but I don't think it's a good beginners guide for anyone except the non-technically minded, going into things that are far beyond what a basic user would want to take in (it went into things I wasn't interested in and I've been using Wave for a while). Why say search 'string' instead of search 'query', which is far more commonly understood and arguably more correct? I was looking for a video for a non-technical guy I know but this would leave him confused and put off

yah I know I use gmail since the day it was launched in beta with invitation only :) but IMAP is by default not stored in ur system (at least in gmail), and I don't think a novice user would know how to change the settings to store the whole message, in fact I would dare to say that a novice user doesn't even know that their messages get stored with POP3 and not by IMAP (by default).

@MrPilingo With IMAP, you have the _option_ of not pulling all the messages in their entirety just to have look at them, but you can still pull everything out and store it locally. There is not a single thing you can do with POP3 that you can't do with IMAP. Nothing. By the way, GMail has an offline mode that lets you use the webmail interface without a connection. It does that by storing everything it needs with Gears (to be replaced by pure HTML5 when possible). I'm not a fan, but alas.

Unfortunately everyone, I'm a part of the wave beta group and I also tested the Gmail beta before it was public and the problem with wave invites is they limit it to 8 people this time as where in gmail you got 50. But trust me everyone, there's still a lot of stuff not available, its very basic right now so youre not missing much dont worry. Since everyone on the web has an opinion, i do too. I'm a UX designer - stands for User Experience Design - a newish buzz word category which covers OLD SCHOOL range of web design elements such as usability design, information architecture, navigation design, transaction design, interaction design, information design, nomenclature (terminology) design -- all the elements that specify what the thing is, how it is used, but especially how it is predicted to be seen through the eyes of a user (2)

It would work great if everyone was there. But the problem is that no-one is using it, and there's no way (that I know of) to get your existing emails, chats, FB friends on to Wave. There's no way (that I know of) to get your data out Wave. And lastly, there's too much stuff available dumped onto the users all at once. An incremental release of the various features (you know, as soon as people stops getting excited about chat enable the next one) would have also helped.

@luke5019 Personally I think it will never replace email for simple messages, such as YouTube notifications and stuff, but it will probably replace stuff where a file is sent for people to view. For example, if people submit a graphic to their friends so they can easily comment.
