Many people have criticised this film and thind it's crap, but I thind they haven't understood anything. First of all it's based on a comic, and this is very important to understand the epic tone and the aesthetics. It must have been extremely difficult to act in such a fake scenary. The result, for me, is awesome. It's a beatiful film and it's wonderfully perfomed by Gerry.

It was like some guys were "walking dyslexic," making their hands go forward with their feet on the same side, and we had to teach them to pretend that a wire was connecting their right hand to their left toe. They weren't "pulling" anything, they just tried too hard and got it wrong.

Wow, I don't know what's happening inside me whenever I see war movies like this. I've seen Band of Brothers, and now The Pacific. I may say The Pacific were more detailed and inside specific persons. You get a closer view of how they've felt, it's horrible the whole thing, but damn they've made such a great work on reacting it! I'm amazed, and I so feel for those people. The war was horrible! :(

The war in Europe was a very different nightmare from the Pacific theatre. Look at it this way. Most people remember D-Day at Normandy as the worst and most heroic moment of WWII due to the slaughter on the beaches and flooded fields inland. The Marines in the Pacific had to go through that on every damn island they targeted to defeat Japan. Guadalcanal, Leyte Gulf, Iwo, Okinawa, etc.! The casualities on Iwo and Okinawa alone make you puke! Hence, the A-bombs! WAR IS HELL! Thank God we won BOTH!

I agree. This is one of my top fave movies ever, along with The Beach. Anyone who thinks this movie is boring or badly made, doesn't understand this film, and its purpose. It covers many issues, phiolosophical and mroalistic. It even delves into a bit of transhumanism and how detatched a human can be when seperated from the real world. It shows you how pointless life would be without children. There would be no essential goal (this goes within the philosophical arena). I love this movie!

One of the best movies ever made. The cinematography is something new to me and is quite superb actually. The casting is exemplary and the acting first class. Even though the idea of worldwide infertility is considered to be quite flimsy, I still think that the storyline is remarkable and kept me glued to the screen 100%. It's a shame that the movie didn't win any Oscar. It was nominated in three categories and if it were my way, I'd hand them a golden statue for each one. The movie's that good.

Which is why this commercial even use a lot of the exact same techniques as TWTG, such as the tires going uphill. If you can show me a video of something that predates "The Way Things Go" I'd be very surprised. It's the same concept and aesthetic, just adapted for advertising purposes.

@jonoplaysdrums Guess what ! I was mistaken. Gerry Anderson is in his eighties but is still with us. He and Sylvia divorced in 1975 and she is still alive as well. He was approached in 1996 about making a live-action Thunderbirds feature film but when they finally got around to it in 2004 they had the gall to not want him to have anything to do with it.Then they wanted to pay him to endorse it but he said no. Considering what a flop it was, he was probably glad he wasn't involved. FAB !

@ronoc9 It's called an Echo effect and it quite a vintage video effect, but it's been put to amazing use. It does require a greenscreen to do it though as the program needs to see the edge of things in order to see the previous frame. After processing the footage and keying out the green (excessive blur of the football gives away the fact that it's a green screen :D) the computer simply keeps the previous frame and places the newer frame on top and it just keeps doing that for the whole video.

I had no idea that those backgrounds were done with green screen and matted in images. Very realistic. Further proof that movies should stop using fake looking CGI (IE, all CGI until the year 2050 when it stops looking like a video game) and just use the technique they used here. It may not be all "futuristic" and is traditional, but it looks a thousand times better.

I was born and raised in New Zealand, so US history is not one of my strong points, and until now didn't know Hanks was involved in this miniseries. That explains why I have been mesmerised by it... often US history is viewed by the rest of the world as over romanticized and not entirely accurate. People who say that must agree that this IS the most accurately portrayed dramatization of events and a must see for all history students. Paul Giamatti is outstanding. Well done Hanks and HBO.
